Orange County Sciatica Chiropractors
What Is Sciatica?
Sciatica treatment helps to reduce the pain caused by sciatica, a painful condition that can affect anyone but is most common in people in their 40s and 50s.
Pain caused by sciatica can be felt anywhere from the lower back down to the foot, and is usually only on one side of the body, but can be felt on both sides at the same time in certain cases.
Sciatica can cause other problems aside from pain, including problems with bowel or bladder function, which may require urgent treatment from medical professionals.
What Causes Sciatica?
Sciatica is simply a pain that can be felt anywhere along the sciatic nerve.
The nerve runs from the lower back to the foot, and any damage on compression on this nerve can cause pain to be felt anywhere along the nerve, not just in the area where the damage or compression has occurred.
Spinal disc herniation is the most common cause of sciatica as the disc herniation causes pressure on the nerve root. A small percentage of cases of sciatica can be caused by spinal stenosis, or even pregnancy.
The symptoms of sciatica are shared by other conditions including diseases and even physical injuries, so tests must be performed to determine the true cause of the problem.
Sciatica Treatment
Sciatica treatment is simple once it has been determined that sciatica is truly the issue.
Standard treatments for sciatica include pain medication to help patients manage the symptoms, and in rare cases surgery may be offered. There is a possibility that left untreated, sciatica will heal on its own, but this can take a long time and is not guaranteed.
A chiropractor for sciatica treatment will treat the cause rather than attempt to mask the symptoms. Misalignment of the spine and poor posture can be contributory causes of sciatica, which makes spinal adjustments for realignment effective for treating sciatica.
These adjustments are noninvasive and do not require recovery time as surgery would - nor are there any side effects such as those that may be caused by pain relief medication.
The procedure allows all the joints in your spine to return to their proper location, giving the soft tissue chance to settle in the correct place, and thereby reduce pressure on the sciatic nerve.
