The "Safety Pin" Cycle
What is this “Safety Pin” cycle?
Simply put, the Safety Pin cycle is an analogy for a neurological interaction between your brain and your body and how Chiropractic care encourages the communication pathways within your physical body. Your body is an amazing and well-oiled machine when it’s at its best optimization. This analogy is a simple way of explaining just how amazing your body is and helps explain how Chiropractic care can support your body.
If you picture your body and brain like a safety pin, say, the top of the safety pin is your brain, and the bottom is your body, it represents the constant cycle of communication between the two. Signals from your body are sent around to your mind and signals from your brain are sent to your body to keep you functioning at the highest optimization you can.
This communication system allows you to appropriately adapt to stimuli and stressors in your life through your “safety pin” system, allowing you to interoperate and adapt to all physical and mental-emotional stimuli in daily life. Stressors can be anything from mental, emotional, nutritional, chemical, or physical extremes. Everyday life isn’t free of stressors that can throw off your day, and body, without you even realizing right away.
Over time, however, the system can get a little exhausted by these stressors, and that is what breaks this cycle (vertebral subluxations). This break in the period throws the entire system out of wack and causes interference and difficulty in adapting to daily stressors that would otherwise be easier to handle. Thus, meaning the communication between the body and the brain is lost under stress on the system.
This loss of connection can cause a whole host of issues that can impact your mental and physical health and cause you to not function at your normal levels of ability. Your ability to perform can be affected in multiple ways, slowing you down and causing the ill function of various parts of your body.
Of course, everyone wants to be in the connected closed safety pin state as much as possible. Chiropractors will remedy the situation since a Chiropractor’s job is to find this place of disconnect or disease in your body and help you work it back together by removing the subluxations and other interferences. Through Chiropractic adjustments, you can put your mind and body back into communication to begin functioning back to 100%. In other words, we take the open safety pin and close it again to reconnect the communication channels.
